AMBIENT AIR QUALITY & EMISSIONS MONITORING

Ambient air quality monitoring is the systematic sampling and measurement of the quantity and types of air pollutants present in the surrounding outdoor air over a continuous period of time. Air quality monitoring regulations (e.g., 40 CFR Part 50, 40 CFR Part 51, 40 CFR Part 53, 40 CFR Part 58) are intended to determine whether a geographical region or area is meeting the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for criteria pollutants:

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO)

  • Lead (Pb)

  • Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)

  • Ozone (O3)

  • Particulate Matter less than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5)

  • Particulate Matter less than 10 micrometers (PM10)

  • Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)

In some instances, a site will be asked to conduct perimeter monitoring to assure regulators or citizens in the nearby community that off-site impacts from a facility are meeting ambient air quality standards, or ambient air criteria established for hazardous air pollutants.  Proactive staff has experience designing and implementing such programs at large and complex industrial sites.  We have also participated in public meetings where the results of such monitoring are reviewed and discussed with citizens and citizen groups.

Stationary source emissions monitoring is required to demonstrate that a process source connected to a control device (e.g., baghouse, thermal oxidizer)  is meeting the requirements in the site permit.

Proactive Environmental Solutions is here to help you with all of your ambient air quality and emissions monitoring needs. We understand and can help you evaluate and/or responsibly plan for:

  • continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS)

  • continuous opacity monitoring systems (COMS)

  • continuous parametric monitoring systems (CPMS)

  • data management, interpretation, validation, and reporting

  • indicator(s) of performance

  • measurement techniques

  • monitoring plan development

  • monitoring system design and site determination

  • quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)

  • stack testing protocol development and management
